Here are some tips to get you and your child on a lifelong journey with Malay books!

The moment a reader is born is when children are given the opportunity to own a book.

At Ungu Pen, we aim to make good Malay books accessible to your child through school book fairs.

Why invite us for a book fair at your school?

🔸️It's hard to find Malay books because most bookstores don't carry Malay books.

🔸️Most people don't want to go to Suntec or Expo as it is crowded or only at specific times of the year.

🔸️We bring the right books accessible and direct to your children.

How to make book fair @ schools interesting?

🔹️ Share and highlight several books in the classroom prior to the book fair.

🔹️ Get the students to dress up as a book character (we often see English book characters but not Malay ones).

🔹️ Pick a local Malay author and invite them for a sharing session and book signing activity during the book fair.

🔹️ Get the Parents' Club / Support Group involve in book related activities.

🔹️ Some children need more help in choosing the right books for them (not just pick the nicest cover they like) 😆. Teachers and parents can help.

🔹️ Parents Support Club can remind other parents to discuss and choose books based on the list given with their children and remember to give their children sufficient/ right amount of money during the book fair.

❣️ We tend to be kinder with kids when they are a little short of money but we can't help if they only have loose change before or after recess. Some teachers may pay for the students first, but there would also be at least one teacher in a school that would just pay out of their own pocket for the children. We love such teachers (may Allah return the rezeki to them in multifolds) but we think that it's not fair for them to do that all the time. So parents, do your part to prepare at least $10 to empower your child to choose the Malay books they like. Their esteem is also raised when they could buy a book just like their peers.
